Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)?
Each student, upon registering in the Oswego Community Schools, must sign the district's AUP. This document, officially called the Guidelines for Acceptable Use of the Computer Network System, states that the student agrees to use the school computer equipment for educational purposes only. Failure to comply by these guidelines will result in disciplinary action. All staff must work together to ensure that students are following the guidelines whenever they are using school computers. Students are not allowed to change any computer settings, play games, instant message or visit inappropriate sites.

What are the check-out policies?
You must have your student ID to check out a book. Books are due two weeks after being checked out. Fines are $.10/day for each overdue item. However, reference books are only allowed to be taken out overnight. Fines for overnight materials are $1.00/day when they are not returned in the AM. You can check out 2 items at a time: 2 books or 1 book/1 magazine or 1 book/1 comic book. However, if you need a book for a project, you can check out more than two items.

You may not check out books for your friends or lend your LRC books to your friends. The books that leave the LRC must be checked out under the account and remain with the student responsible for checking them out. If this is violated, both the lender/receiver will only be allowed to check out one book at a time the remainder of the school year.
Book Renewals
Students may renew their books one time on their own on their LRC account. Students may login to their LRC account by clicking on Learning Resource Center, then Bednarcik Card Catalog, then the blue words, Bednarcik. However, just because you click renew on your account does not mean it renewed for you. You MUST READ the pop-up. It may not renew for you if the book is on hold for someone else or if you have a fine. If you need the book longer, stop by the circulation desk. If they book is on hold for someone else, we can renew it for one more week. If you have a fine, we can renew the book as long as your fine is under .50 cents. You may renew a book as many times as you want as long as it isn't on hold for someone and you can show the LRC staff you have the book and have not lost it.

Lost Books
If you have lost the book, we will renew it for you for two more weeks so you have time to look for it. If you cannot find the book after renewing it, please pay for the book so we can purchase a library bound copy for all to enjoy again. Do not purchase the book yourselves since we require library bound copies to be used at school.
Book Fair Rules
If you have an outstanding book fine you will not be allowed into the fair until that fine is paid off. We strongly believe that if you have money for the fair, you have money to take care of your responsibilities.
Does the LRC have student volunteers?
A handful of students volunteer their time in the LRC. They shelve books, put up or take down chairs, turn on/off computers, deliver AV equipment and also contribute to the smooth operation of the library. You can earn Character Counts Cards by volunteering before school, during lunch or TSI. See Miss Welch for a pass if you're interested.
